All signs point to Kacey Musgraves preparing to announce a new album – if her social media presence and Grammys commercial are anything to go by.
Since Sunday (4 February), Musgraves has posted uncaptioned nature photos to Instagram, capturing the Slow Burn singer lying in a field with what might be cover art surrounding that image.
Yesterday, during the Grammys ceremony, Musgraves upped the ante. She posted a photo of herself holding a classical guitar with possible lyrics to new music, signalling a new, affirmative era: “I’m saying goodbye to the people that I feel are real good at wasting my time,” she wrote. “No regrets, baby, I just think that maybe you go your way and I’ll go mine.”
Sharing another image, this time of two sheep on a grass field, she wrote in the caption, “… it’s been a real good time. But, you’ve got dark energy, something I can’t unsee and I’ve got to take care of myself…”
Lastly, Musgraves unveiled a teaser video as a Grammy commercial, featuring stills and clips of the singer immersed in her surroundings with a horse, ducks and birds around her. In a close-up shot of the notebook she’s writing in, Musgraves noted the phrases “wasting my time” and no regrets, baby”. She then sings in the atmospheric clip, “My Saturn has returned”.

While Musgraves hasn’t officially announced her fifth album, the combination of teasers is as good as the reveal we know is coming.
In 2022, Musgraves covered the Elvis Presley classic tune, Can’t Help Falling In Love, for the Austin Butler-starring Elvis movie.
That cover arrived months after the singer released her fourth album, star-crossed, in September 2021. Inspired by Musgraves’ divorce from fellow musician Ruston Kelly, the 15-song collection, structured as a modern-day tragedy in three acts, tells a highly personal journey of heartache and healing.
Star-crossed followed Musgraves’ 2018 Grammy Award-winning album (Album of the Year, Best Country Album), Golden Hour.
