First things first, if you are serious about your music and you want your song to get exposure across a variety of media - including Kix - we highly recommend using someone publicist, specifically one that has experience servicing songs to country radio.
We pride ourselves on the amount of Australian There are loads of talented people all around Australia and quite often we get contact by aspiring performers who have recorded a song and hoping to get it played on Kix. We LOVE to be able to support local talent. So if you have recorded a song and would like us to consider it, please feel free to send it through.
A couple of things that will help:
Quality - is the recording the same level of quality that you would hear on a CD. If it sounds like you've recorded it on your smartphone, we're probably not going to play it. For the sake of file space, we'll ask you to send through an MP3. However, if we do play your track on the airwaves a WAV file recorded at 44.1 KHz and 16 bit.
Individual - does the song sound like a discount Garth Brooks? Or does the song sound like you? We already have Garth Brooks but we don't have your song. Be yourself and don't try to copy anybody else, we look for something that is unique and interesting.
Strengths & Weaknesses - Poke and prod at the song. Have you played the song for anybody? Have you played it live? Sometimes road testing a song is a great way to be able to find out which bits work and which bits don't. If you got great low range vocal but not so strong on the high range, don't try to sing high range. Look at every part of your song and critic it. Could it be better? Which parts are the best.
Length - While you might be an amazing guitarist and your skills might super impress us. If you get to a third guitar solo and a fourth verse, we might be tempting to say 'pass'. To get your song played on the radio aim for somewhere between two to four minutes, possibly five minutes for a ballad - and even then, it would have to be amazing and captivating. You should be getting to the first chorus at about the one minute mark at the latest.
Simply the Best - Don't just send us every song you've recorded and ask us to pick, as making decisions isn't our best quality. If you send through five songs and we don't really like the first one, we probably won't keep listening, and that would be a shame if the fifth song is an absolute ripper. Rather, send what you think is your absolute best work.
Don't Give Up - we might not play the first song you submit. Or the second. Or the third. That's fine. Keep working on your craft. Talk to other artists; seek advice and guidence; play live shows gigs. The next song could be the gem we are looking for.
Please note, due to the high number of submissions we are unable to contact everybody so only those who are successful will be contacted. We also recommend contacting a publicist that specialises in servicing to country radio.
*****Also, the form above is tested weekly on both .wav and .mp3 files and is working. Please wait a moment for the file to load once you hit the 'Submit' button, especially if you have a slow internet connection and/or it's a larger file. If an error message comes up and you are unable to send, please try again later.*****
Thank you for taking the time to send us your music.
