Individually, Adam Harvey, Beccy Cole, Darren Coggan and Felicity Urquhart are four of the most recognisable country music artists in the Australian entertainment world. Golden Guitars, Gold records, chart topping albums and countless Number One singles between them… this merely scratches the surface of their combined achievements!
2019 marks the 20 th anniversary of these four talented and highly decorated artists forming a tour called The Young Stars Of Country. The tour’s name was the brainchild of the booking agent they shared at the time. These young and feisty newcomers fought to have their own names splashed across the light- boxes and chalkboards of the venues they played for fear of not being remembered - they needn’t have worried. Adam, Beccy, Darren and Felicity were not to know that this was the beginning of a musical bond and personal friendship that was to last for two decades.
While others have come and gone, tried and failed, these four have continued to rack up the accolades to remain at the forefront of the music industry today. The awesome four-some attribute much of their individual success and longevity to bonds and friendships made with fellow performers along the way.
Adam and Beccy have paired up on many occasions, most recently releasing the highly successful album “The Great Country Songbook Volume II” in 2017. Their collaborative touring has taken them on ten national tours together, there’s no doubting their onstage chemistry and mutual mischief. Darren and Felicity have not only shared stages together, but also the small screen in their capacity as presenters on Channel 7’s Sydney Weekender. Their most recent collaboration “Inasmuch” was the final track on Darren’s stunning 2017 release “The Wide Horizon”.
Of the upcoming 20 th anniversary tour Adam Harvey said, “We are all so excited to be reuniting. It seems like yesterday when we all started touring together and we can’t believe it was 20 years ago.
We were just kids back then and now we all have kids of our own! We are going to have plenty of laughs and a whole lot of fun at these shows. It’s going to be very special to share the stage again with such great mates”.
“Young Stars…when I think of those days touring I see the smiles on our faces, the big belly laughs and the mischievous after gig parties. I think of nursing Ricky while Beccy was on stage not having a clue what to do with a baby. We had stars in our eyes and it was a quick learn on what touring was all about”, said Felicity Urquhart.
If we rewind back to 2001, Felicity, Darren, Beccy and Adam shared in a Golden Guitar Award win for “Vocal Collaboration of the Year” with their live version of Dolly Parton’s “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind” recorded at the Gympie Muster during Beccy’s main stage performance, a version we’re sure to hear once again when this reunion hits the road.
“It’s really no surprise that the four of us have remained friends for 20 years, those early days of touring hold the fondest of memories. This reunion is special because not only do we present as four individual enduring artists, but also four dear friends. Get ready for the stories, the secrets and the laughs!”, said Beccy Cole.
Darren Coggan said, “I’m so grateful to have Adam, Beccy and Felicity in my life and I am thrilled to be sharing the stage with them again for this ‘reunion’ tour. I know it’s going to be one of the most rewarding and exciting chapters of my career”.
Darren Coggan has spent much of 2019 touring to sell-out houses in his highly acclaimed “Rhinestone Cowboy” show, a mirror of the success he created with “Peace Train – The Cat Stevens Story”.
Felicity Urquhart left Tamworth in January with a brand new Golden Guitar Award (her 8th) shared with her highly successful group Bennett, Bowtell and Urquhart and in April of this year, Felicity released her 7th studio album “Frozen Rabbit” before hitting the road with one of Australia’s brightest new talents, Brad Butcher.
Beccy Cole started 2019 with winning her 11th Golden Guitar Award for “Female Artist of the Year” and has packed out venues on her “Lioness” tour since the album’s late 2018 release. The album also recently took out “Best Independent Country Album” at the AIR (Australian Independent Record) Awards.
Adam Harvey’s 2018 release “The Nashville Tapes” was received to rave reviews and has seen him playing to sell-out crowds across Australia. The album debuted at #1 on the national ARIA Country albums chart and at #9 on the national mainstream all genres chart.
You can expect some very special moments on this show, many laughs and even a few tears but there is no doubting that there will be some breathtaking musical moments. When four artists come together after 20 years of love and respect for each other, the audience is in for a once in a lifetime treat.
