Tamworth Regional Council and the Country Music Association of Australia Inc are delighted to announce Lee Kernaghan as the recipient of the 2020 Golden Guitar Award for Top Selling Australian Album of the Year for his latest album, Backroad Nation. ARIA sales data determine the winner of the Top Selling Australian Album of the Year award for the period January 1 to December 31, 2019, for albums of new material, first released in 2019.
Backroad Nation was released in May 2019 and produced by award-winning Australian songwriter/producer, Lindsay Rimes. Debuting at #1 on the ARIA Country Album Chart, it held the top spot for multiple weeks and continues to hold in the Top 10. The album also impacted #3 on the ARIA All Genre Album Chart and #1 on the iTunes Country Album Chart. The title track reached #1 on the National Country Airplay and CMC charts.
Following the album’s release, Lee spent the remainder of the year on the Backroad Nation National Tour, covering 48 shows and counting. Most of the Backroad Nation tour dates sold out and the tour will be extended into 2020 with more dates to be announced.
