While Gord Bamford was born in Australia, he left for Canada at a young age and has spent the majority of his life in the land of ice hockey and maple syrup making a living out of being a country star. What a star he is too? He's been called Canada's answer to George Strait, which does make him kind of a big deal. Although, you wouldn't know it speaking with him.
Kix caught up with him at the Gympie Music Muster and he proved to be the kindest of gentleman and an honest, down to earth guy. Some might even say that's what you get when you put Australia and Canada together... down to earth good bloke. So it is great to hear that he is enjoying his trip down under and getting to know his birth land and not only that, it has been an experience for us getting to know all that is Gord Bamford.
This isn't a fly by night thing either. Bamford has repeatedly said that he wants to make trips to Oz a regular thing and get to know his country of birth a bit more.
Luckily enough, he had the Wolfe Brothers show him around by taking him on their 'This Crazy Life' Mini Festival Tour which wrapped up on Saturday night in Toowoomba. Currently his song Breakfast Beer is in the Kix Hottest Ten. We were lucky enough to get an exclusive acoustic snippet along with a message from Gord for Kix listeners.

We asked the question in our Kix Pollwho should win the 'Best Country Album' category at next months ARIA Awards. Just to recap the nominees were in no particular order:
Sara Storer - Silos; Fanny Lumsden - Small Town Big Shot; Bill Chambers - Cold Trail; The Wolfe Brothers - This Crazy Life; Adam Brand & The Outlaws - self titled.
There's no doubt that they are quality albums, but as the Highlander famously said, there can be only one. Although, for a long while there the results were tied for first spot, with both Adam Brand & The Outlaws and The Wolfe Brothers going neck and neck for quite some time. However, there was one winner and that was Adam Brand & The Outlaws winning the popular vote with 34.26% of the vote for their self titled album. This was followed by The Wolfe Brothers and their 'This Crazy Life' album with 31.94%.
Third position was pretty clear - although, she ran away with the votes early - Fanny Lumsden's 'Small Town Big Shot' achieved 24.07% of votes. A great effort for an independent artist who had crowd funded her debut release. It proves that if you have the talent and are willing to work hard, good things can happen.
In fourth position was daylight, followed by Sara Storer's 'Silos', which achieved 8.8% of the vote and then Bill Chambers received just 0.93% of the vote for his album 'Cold Trail'. This is probably more of an indication based on the KIX demographic of listeners than those particular albums themselves.
One of the most anticipated tours this year is the Harvey's Bar Tour from Adam Harvey, and they are currently in rehearsals. Could there be a surprised lined up? Willie Nelson plays with the most awesome band ever! The drummer of Deep Creek Road shows off some mad drumming skills and Kelsea Ballerini makes one little stop before coming to Australia. It's all there and more in today's Social Media Wrap.
So excited about this, can’t wait to hit the road with Mick Lindsay.
Yeh that's right, you guys asked for it..... I'm going on tour! I'm hitting the road in May with my good friends from...
The boys from The Wolfe Brothers are back in Oz after spending the last few months in the US writing and recording their upcoming third album. They will be playing the Motor City Music Festival from March 11 to 13, which you can win tickets for if you so desire. They got together for a bit of a jam session recently and put together a bit of a melody of artists like George Strait, Alabama and Garth Brooks. This was loads of fun so they decided to share it live on Facebook.
Tom Wolfe has been with his partner Ally for what feels like ages. Not surprising the day had to come for this to happen:
Congratulations to both of them!
Things are definitely going well, especially with the overwhelmingly positive response that they have received from their latest single: 'This Crazy Life' and not only that, they are set to play on the same lineup as Eric Church, Sam Hunt, Big & Rich and more at the Country Concert in Ohio during July.
