Austin Mackay is hitting the road this August, announcing his Chasing The Wheel tour—marking another achievement for the rising Australian singer-songwriter during a breakout year.
The tour will follow the release of Mackay’s upcoming single, The Wheel, which is set to drop on Friday, 4 July. Mackay’s upcoming run across the country follows his recent stint supporting Max McNown on a sold-out tour of Australia, and finds him playing in the largest rooms of his career.
His Chasing The Wheel tour begins on Saturday, 2 August, at The Brightside in Brisbane. It continues at Melbourne’s Northcote Social Club on Thursday, 7 August, Sydney’s The Lansdowne on Friday, 8 August, and wraps up at Fremantle’s Mojo’s on Saturday, 16 August. Tickets are on sale now via Austin Mackay’s website.
He said of playing to his fans across the country, “This tour feels like a big moment for me. I’m feeling a real shift in my career right now. The songs and the shows are connecting more than ever. After years of hard work, it’s exciting to feel that momentum building.”
Mackay announced the tour a week after sharing that he could not perform at this year’s CMA Fest because he experienced an “unexpected situation” with his visa and was detained for 16 hours at LAX.
Mackay shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram. He discussed his missing out on performing at CMA Fest, but taking the chance to “honour the opportunity,” he shared a live set with his followers as “a taste of what I had planned to bring to Nashville.”
Mackay dropped his most recent single, Time To Learn, at the end of January and embarked on a corresponding Australian tour.
A track written by Mackay and his best mates around a campfire as they each dealt with rocky moments in their relationships, he explained: “We wanted to create a song that carried the feeling of hope throughout it, one that forces you to reflect but also brings you a sense of comfort. Time To Learn is exactly that.”
