Just hours before stepping onto the stage at the State of Origin Game 3 decider, country powerhouse Brad Cox has released his latest single, The High Cost of Living, featuring US country star Randy Houser.
Premiered live last month at the Hordern Pavilion during Houser’s Sydney show, the track is a collaboration born from years of friendship between the two artists. Tapping into the heaviness of the times we're living in, The High Cost of Living blends gritty realism with soaring harmonies, showcasing both Cox and Houser at their most vocally raw and emotionally resonant.
The song will feature on Cox’s forthcoming fourth studio album, Endemic Intelligence In Multiple Dimensions, which is due for release on Friday, September 26. The project marks a bold creative leap for the artist, pairing stripped-back honesty with sonically adventurous production. Alongside The High Cost of Living, the album also includes recent fan favourites Sunset Psalm, I’m A Boxer and Everything I’ve Got.
“This record feels like the most honest thing I’ve ever made,” Cox said. “It’s not chasing trends. It’s just telling the truth.”
To mark the release, Cox will hit the road for a run of intimate album launch shows in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Newcastle. With the first round of tickets selling out fast, second shows have already been added in Brisbane and Newcastle. These gigs promise to bring fans up-close and personal with Cox and his band, in the venues that helped shape his early career.
Fresh off festival slots at Yours & Owls, Meatstock, and Bluesfest, and after supporting Houser on his recent Sydney show, Cox is showing no signs of slowing down. Tonight, he’ll bring his signature grit and heart to the massive stage of State of Origin Game 3, proving once again why he's become one of Australia’s most compelling country voices.
