Carly Pearce has gone dark, erasing her social media profile pictures on all platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and X – formerly known as Twitter) and making them all black, leading fans to think that new music is on the way.
There’s no caption on her Facebook profile or cover photos, but going dark is spooking and thrilling fans, with listeners writing:
“New music must be coming”, “Something’s happening”, “New album coming soon!!”, “GUYS NOBODY PANIC, EVERYTHING IS FINE. ITS AN ALBUM DROP THING THEY’VE [other artists] STARTED DOING!”, “CARLYYYYYYY WHAT DOES IT MEANNNNNN “, “I'm over here waiting for the picture to load like a dummy”, and “WHAT DOES THIS MEAN”.

While a social media blackout often signals that an artist is preparing to launch new music or enter a new era – a tactic used by artists as successful as Taylor Swift and Beyoncé – the move can also lead to worry.
When American rock band Paramore wiped their Twitter and Instagram pages free from all posts and deleted their profile and cover photos across all social media platforms in December, some fans believed a breakup announcement was imminent.
It later turned out that the band weren’t breaking up but had become free agents after a 20-year record deal with Atlantic ended.
Last June, Carly Pearce and Chris Stapleton’s collaborative single, We Don’t Fight Anymore, was named Countrytown’s Best New Music.
Pearce said about the anthem via Instagram: “This song embodies a place that I think, if we are honest with ourselves, we’ve all felt at some point in a relationship. The distance that feels heartbreaking, yet you’re also indifferent. I’ve always been a writer who never wanted to shy away from the ‘uncomfortable’ moments in all of our lives, and this song feels too important not to share.”
