CMT (Country Music Television) Australia is set to depart Foxtel at the end of the month, TV Tonight reports.
Along with four other music channels, MTV Hits, Nick Music, MTV Club, and MTV 80s, the Australian pay television company seems to be overhauling its music programming once again.
After introducing CMT and the channels listed above in 2020 and quietly adding Vevo Pop, Vevo 2K, Vevo 90s, and Vevo Retro Rock earlier this year, CMT Australia replaced the long-running CMC (Country Music Channel) in 2020.
Foxtel made a deal with ViacomCBS in 2020 and introduced CMT Australia, its MTV music channels, and the kid-friendly Nick Music.
CMT has been the only locally programmed music video channel on Foxtel since its introduction in 2020. It’s owned and operated by Paramount Networks UK & Australia and marks the third (and only) country music video channel operating in Australia, following the closure of MusicCountry and CMC.
Since July 2020, CMT has run as a localised version of US Country Music Television. It airs country music videos 24/7 from Australia and abroad, featuring artists such as Morgan Evans, Brad Cox, Amber Lawrence, Lee Kernaghan, and many other Australian acts, as well as Morgan Wallen, Chris Stapleton, Kip Moore, and Carrie Underwood.
Reacting to the news that CMT will be no more, Little Sparrow PR, the team which represents artists including Jeremy Turner, Jay Santilli, Jayne Denham, Seaforth, Tori Darke, and many more, wrote on Facebook: “Such sad news today! CMC and CMT are such incredible support to our artists. Forever grateful to Tim Daley and San Man over the years! Always such a pleasure to deal with. We will miss you CMT!”
