Paramore front woman Hayley Williams has released a surprise solo album featuring 17 new tracks, first dropped exclusively on her website before arriving on streaming platforms. Though the album remains officially untitled, fans have dubbed it Ego.
One track, in particular, Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party (EDAABP) is making waves for its provocative opening line:
“I’ll be the biggest star at this racist country singer’s bar
No use shootin’ for the moon, no use chasing waterfalls
I’m the biggest star at this racist country singer’s bar
No use shootin’ for the moon, no use chasing waterfalls”
Although she never names anyone directly, the lyric has been widely interpreted as a dig at Morgan Wallen. In 2024, Wallen opened This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen on Nashville’s Lower Broadway, a venue that’s quickly become a main attraction for both fans and critics.
In a recent interview with Stereogum, Williams was asked if she had a favourite artist-owned bar on Broadway. Her response was clear: “Oh no… there’s not. There’s really no good ones. I don’t have one… Pass. Hard pass to all of them.” When asked if she had a least favourite, she didn’t hesitate: “Morgan Wallen’s.”
She also criticised the overall trend of celebrity-branded venues, calling them “terrible” and overly commercialised, saying, “I have a lot of beef with all of them.”
While Paramore continues to tour and release music, Williams’ solo material has leaned increasingly into cultural and political commentary, EDAABP being the latest example to spark discussion in both the country and alt-pop worlds.
