Australian country music powerhouse James Johnston has released his latest single GOOD FOR ME, a heartfelt anthem celebrating the quiet, everyday moments that define real love. The track taps into a more personal side of Johnston, known for his high-energy performances and chart-topping hits.
“It’s about the feeling of coming home to [my wife Talia] and just doing the simple things, sitting and watching a movie, having a cup of tea,” Johnston shares. “It’s those moments I appreciate more than ever, and I wanted to capture that joy in a song.”
Written from a place of deep gratitude, GOOD FOR ME is a shift in tempo for the two-time Golden Guitar winner. Where previous releases like HELL BOY and BACK IN THE DAY leaned into youthful nostalgia and fiery energy, this new single slows things down to spotlight the magic in everyday domesticity.
“She got me putting more pillows on the bed sheets and watching crime shows on the TV,” Johnston says with a laugh. “I think that’s something a lot of men could relate to. It’s something my younger, single self wouldn't have cared for, but I do it because she cares about it, and that’s what love is. It’s about wanting to make the person you love happy."
The single comes off the back of a blockbuster year for Johnston, who has notched up six #1 airplay hits, a Platinum-certified record, over 130 million global streams, and major wins at the Countrytown Awards, including Entertainer and Male Artist of the Year. His debut album, RAISED LIKE THAT, made history as the most streamed Australian country album ever and earned a 2024 ARIA nomination for Best Country Album.
Fresh off a trip to South Africa where his collab COUNTRY IS FOR ME with local artist Appel won Song of the Year, Johnston is showing no signs of slowing down. He’ll be hitting major stages this spring and summer, including Gympie Music Muster, Night At The Barracks, and Savannah in the Round.
“I want people to listen to this and reflect on the person they love,” Johnston says. “To appreciate the simple things between them that makes what they have together truly special.”
