Kaylee Bell is capping off a massive year with the release of her first ever Christmas song Wake Me Up When It’s Christmas Time. Written and produced with long time collaborator and friend Tom Jordan, the track arrives just in time to be the soundtrack to your tree decorating chaos.
Bell says the song came together during a low key night at home in Nashville that turned unexpectedly magical. “I wrote this song in my Nashville flat with my two flat mates one night, we had just put up our Xmas tree and were having our usual nightly jam session with the guitars in the lounge and I had the song title sitting on my phone and threw it out into the room and the song wrote itself. Christmas is such a time of nostalgia and being with loved ones and this song speaks of that yearning to be with your special person on Christmas and how all the sparkly things don’t matter as much as being with people you love at Christmas time,”
The holiday release follows a breakout run for the star who just weeks ago, stunned 30,000 fans at Australia’s Strummingbird Festival when Jelly Roll unexpectedly invited her on stage for a spontaneous duet.
The pair ripped through Keith Urban’s Somebody Like You and The Angels’ Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again sparking a massive roar from the audience. Jelly Roll who had already been a fan of her viral hit Keith called the moment a long time coming, with Bell later describing the gesture as “huge” and praising his generosity.
Bell has been stacking wins all year. Her latest album Cowboy Up earned rave reviews for its blend of resilience and unapologetic storytelling making up her most personal body of work since becoming a mum.
She recently wrapped her New Zealand Cowboy Up tour, treating fans to high-energy sets packed with favourites Cowboy Up to Song for Shania, Boots N’ All and Good Things.
Now as holiday playlists start taking over our speakers and the Christmas countdown officially begins, Bell’s Wake Me Up When It’s Christmas Time has arrived and is the season’s newest anthem.
