Luke Combs today has released his massive new album The Way I Am, but last week the country superstar gave fans a final preview that came with a very Australian backstory.
Last week Combs released I Ain’t No Cowboy, a new track from the 22-song project that was actually written while he was touring Australia in 2023. The song came together during a writing session with fellow country heavyweight Cody Johnson and Johnson’s guitarist Jake Mears while the pair were travelling together down under.
“We were on tour in Australia with Cody Johnson and had planned to get together while we were there. I had this cowboy idea for a song, and ironically, he’d started writing something really similar that same day. We ended up finding time to write and finished I Ain’t No Cowboy with his guitar player Jake Mears, and I even got to play it at one of the shows Down Under. The fans really seemed to love it, so I’m excited they get to hear it a week before the full album comes out.”
For Australian fans who were lucky enough to catch that stadium run in 2025, the song’s release feels like a bit of a full-circle moment, going from an early live debut on the road here to a featured spot on one of the year’s most anticipated country albums.
Produced by Combs alongside Jonathan Singleton and Chip Matthews, The Way I Am showcases the singer leaning even further into the storytelling and emotional honesty that’s defined his career.
Across the album’s 22 tracks, Combs reflects on everything from life on the road to family, self doubt and the realities of balancing a global career with life at home.
The record also includes a collaboration with bluegrass icon Alison Krauss, alongside previously released songs like Back in the Saddle, Sleepless in a Hotel Room, Be By You and My Kinda Saturday Night.
The album arrives just as Combs prepares to kick off his My Kinda Saturday Night Tour, a massive run of stadium shows across the USA, UK and Europe - including multiple nights at London’s Wembley Stadium, a milestone that will make him the first country artist to sell out the venue more than once.
