There was a treat for fans on Instagram yesterday when Morgan Wallen dropped a snippet of what is expected to be a forthcoming new song I Had Some Help. He tagged Post Malone, Ernest and producer Charlie Handsome, but the song was deleted almost as quickly as it appeared.
A quick-thinking fan grabbed it and re-posted it for the world to see on YouTube with fans discussing whether the track is a demo in progress or a completed work.
Did Wallen have a change of heart…. or perhaps his label did? Either way, the song is a signpost to what we can expect to see from him in 2024. His single Last Night was all-conquering in 2023, becoming the most streamed song of the year on Spotify and Apple Music in the US and topping the annual Countrytown Hot 50 here in Australia.
Earlier this week, Wallen jumped the genre divide once again as a surprise cameo in Drake’s music video for You Broke My Heart. The two appear together in a fancy restaurant, before having their car blown up by vengeful exes.
While Post Malone continues to tease his country album, Morgan Wallen continues to tease his own multi-genre approach as country launches into the mainstream and finds a new audience.
Fellow genre-bender Jelly Roll also came out on social media this week making his 2024 prediction that country music would continue its ascendency in the mainstream.
“Country music’s best days are still ahead- So many great songs coming out of Nashville. It’s going to be a big 2024. In fact, I predict country artists will bridge the gap between rock, pop, and hip hop next year. Big crossover collabs. Save this comment,” he said.
Consider it saved. We’re here for it!
