Country duo Patsy & Dave have crossed paths once again with one of the genre’s biggest names, teaming up with the iconic James Blundell for their latest single.
Released today, the nascent I’m Suddenly Old is a fun, yet reflective piece of work which takes stock of life as it celebrates the wisdom, memories, and perspectives that comes from a life well-lived.
Featuring Blundell’s voice in the mix, the result is a gorgeous three-part harmony which is as effective as the track itself is impactful.
“I’m Suddenly Old is a song about looking back and wondering where the years have gone, but also appreciating everything those years have given us,” Patsy & Dave said of the song.
“There’s a bit of humour in it, a bit of reflection, and a lot of truth. Working with James again has been really special, and the three of our voices together brought something to the song that felt very natural from the start.”
Having launched his career in the ‘80s, Blundell has since carved out an impressive career as one of Australia’s most revered country acts. His latest album, Patience Wins, arrived in November of last year.
Meanwhile, Patsy & Dave – which comprise the eponymous Patsy Toop and David Baird – first came together back in 2007, with the duo having released a trio of records under their original moniker The Long & Short Of It, and two records under their birth names since 2022.
Their most recent record, 2024’s The Willow, topped the Australian Country Albums chart and also featured two collaborations with local music veteran Russell Morris.
The pair returned last year with a new single, After The Storm, which was itself their first collaboration with Blundell. “This song is a celebration of the incredible determination and heart of regional Australia,” Blundell said at the time.
“It’s about standing tall, supporting one another, and moving forward no matter what challenges come our way.”
