This year’s Savannah In The Round festival is getting closer and closer, and today (July 10) organisers have unveiled the full program for the mainstage – as well as a new name for it.

The festival’s main hub for headliners has been formally dubbed The Cape, paying tribute to Cape York and the regional heritage of Savannah In The Round’s hometown of Mareeba – the gateway to Cape York, which itself is largest wilderness in northern Australia, and the northernmost point of the continent.

A press release notes that the renaming of the Savannah mainstage “underscores the festival’s commitment to bolstering awareness and visitation to Tropical North Queensland”, with Mark Olsen – CEO of Tourism Tropical North Queensland – noting that in 2023 alone, the festival “generated $5.5 million in overnight visitor expenditure and more than 23,000 visitor nights”.

Olsen continued: “This year there are very high profile international and Australian artists performing, so we anticipate more interstate guests will arrive and boost this figure to $6 million by staying longer to experience some of the 2,500 tours exploring the reef, rainforest and outback.”

Kicking off the festival on Friday October 11, the first act to hit The Cape will be The Wolfe Brothers. They’ll be followed by a trio of fellow Aussie country stars – Troy Cassar-Daley, Lee Kernaghan and Tyler Hubbard – before The Living End close the night out with an explosive set of rock ’n’ roll.

The program for Saturday October 12 is just as jam-packed, starting out with a set from The Whitlams Black Stump. John Williamson will follow their lead, paving the way for James Johnston and Kip Moore to keep the party rocking well into the evening – and warming the stage up for Saturday’s headliners, Hoodoo Gurus.

Last but certainly not least, Sunday October 13 will see Roadtrippers open up The Cape, before Graeme Connors and The Hindley St Country Club show the Savannah crowd what they’ve got. Their sets will be chased up by an epic performance from Sheppard, with John Stevens set to wrap the whole thing up on the high note to end all high notes.

For its 2024 edition, Savannah In The Round will return to the homely Mareeba Rodeo Arena in the Cairns Hinterland. Tickets are selling fast, too, with the aforementioned press release noting that most buyers have been snatching up three-day season passes – you can head here to grab yours before they inevitably sell out.
