Golden Guitar winner Tom Curtain is set to light up the Tamworth Country Music Festival with the debut of his new single Red Hot Summer and the festival premiere of his award-winning Katherine Outback Experience.
The Katherine Outback Experience blends live music, real horse training, working dog demonstrations, and bush storytelling. Curtain and his team tour it for six months of the year, but this is the first time the full show is hitting AELEC Arena in Tamworth.
As for his new single Red Hot Summer which is also be debuted at the festival, reflects a pivotal moment nearly a decade ago when Curtain met his wife and creative partner, Annabel.
“I was stranded on the side of a road when Annabel’s father stopped to give me a lift,” Curtain says. “It was a pivotal moment in my life that led to everything we have today.”
He adds, “At the time, Annabel was working as an urban planner but within a year she made the decision to leave the city life behind and move to the Northern Territory with me and together we built the Katherine Outback Experience.”
Curtain recalls how the show started small: “It started as me, a horse, a guitar and my truck. Now, we travel six months of the year with eight horses and a pony, 12 working dogs, four goats, three musicians and our two kids.”
He will perform the new single Red Hot Summer across two shows in Tamworth: a full Katherine Outback Experience show at AELEC on Tuesday, January 20, and a music-only show at the Longyard Hotel on Wednesday, January 21, featuring special guests Laura Frank and Chris Matthews.
“We’ve always had to stage the Katherine Outback Experience show well outside of Tamworth because of the space it needs,” Curtain says. “Being able to bring it right into town at AELEC for the first time is huge for us, and we’d love to see it become a regular part of the festival.”
