With just four days left to vote in the Hottest 100 of 2025, triple j has offered a sneak peek into how the upcoming countdown is shaping up.
Voting for the Hottest 100 of 2025 closes this Thursday (15 January) at 5 pm AEDT. Listeners won’t have to wait long to find out which songs made the countdown, either: the big day is scheduled for Saturday, 24 January, from 12 pm AEDT.
So close to the end of the voting period, triple j has revealed that “this year’s race is proving tighter than ever.” Offering a snippet of information ahead of the nationwide listening party celebrating the music of 2025, triple j shared the following:
One artist has secured a back-to-back entry on the countdown, four spots are locked in a tie, and 20 tracks are separated by ten votes or less, with the current songs placed at #97, #98, and #99 separated by just one vote.
The teaser follows a similar trajectory to one posted earlier this month, when triple j announced that six songs in the top 20 were separated by under 30 votes, three songs in the Hottest 100 were tied, and two artists had back-to-back placements.
Last year’s countdown saw Chappell Roan top the poll with Good Luck, Babe! after 2.4 million votes were counted.
It was an epic year for record-breaking women, with Billie Eilish and Charli XCX scoring a massive eight entries. That record eclipsed G Flip’s own seven from the year prior, which broke Wolfmother's six, set in 2005.
However, it was a disappointing turnout for local acts, with only 29 songs by Aussie acts – the worst showing of homegrown artists since the 1996 poll. Notably, this year’s voting system shows an option to filter tracks by whether they are by an Australian act.
