70 years since he recorded his first single, country music icon Willie Nelson is showing no signs of slowing down, with the veteran musician announcing the release of his latest album.
Dubbed Dream Chaser, the forthcoming LP is Nelson’s 79th full-length solo record, and his 156th album overall. It’s set for release on May 29th – exactly one month after Nelson’s 93rd birthday.
In celebration of its announcement, Nelson has also shared the title track as its lead single, and detailed the full tracklist.
Co-writing six of the album’s ten songs, Dream Chaser also contains the track I Can’t Read Your Mind, which features both Buddy Cannon and Bob Dylan as co-writers.
It's the first time that Nelson and Dylan have written together since the 1993 album Across The Borderline. Alongside featuring a version of Dylan's 1989 cut What Was It You Wanted, the record also featured Heartland, a tune the pair wrote together and duetted on.
While Nelson will be celebrating the record’s release with a run of dates throughout the US in April and May, it remains to be seen when – and if – he may make ever a long-awaited return to Australia.
Nelson made his first trip to Australia in 1981, before returning in 1994 as part of a co-headlining tour with Waylon Jennings, and again in 2000. A return was planned for 2005, though a bout of laryngitis saw those plans upended.
In fact, Nelson hasn’t played outside the US since a 2019 trip to Canada, while his most recent visit beyond North America was a visit to the UK in 2013.
Willie Nelson’s Dream Chaser arrives on May 29th with pre-orders available now.
