Loren Ryan’s episode of Play School will air on ABC Kids on July 20. It will later be available to watch on the ABC iView app.
“Come along with Kiya, Little Ted and I on a Dino Hunt!” the 2023 Toyota Star Maker wrote on social media. “I used to fake sick to stay home from school and watch Playschool all day. If 5 year old me could see me now...”
According to her social media, Ryan recorded the episode in December 2022. She also shared a series of photos on Instagram from the upcoming episode with Play School and ABC Kids Listen Story Salad host, Matthew Backer. She wears a bright yellow shirt under printed floral overalls.
The iconic series began in July 1966 and is the longest-running children’s show in Australia. It was admitted into the Logies’ Hall of Fame in 2006, the program’s 40th anniversary year, in recognition of the strong influence the show has had on at least three generations of Australian children. It is one of only five Australian TV programs to be inducted.
Fellow country artists Fanny Lumsden and Amber Lawrence were on the show in 2020, while Amy Sheppard appeared in a 2023 episode. The series has also seen the likes of Guy Sebastian, Delta Goodrem, Kate Miller-Heidke, Hamish & Andy, Molly Meldrum, Magda Szubanski, Dave Hughes and many more visit the Play School set.
In 2022, Ryan released Songs for Charlie, a kid’s country album that includes covers of her daughter’s favourites, as well as four original tracks. It incorporates words and verses in the Gamilaraay language and the musical backing of the didgeridoo and clapsticks.
Hailing from Tamworth in New South Wales, Ryan was also a Toyota Star Maker Finalist in 2022. Having shared the stage with Jessica Mauboy and Kelly Rowland, Ryan was known as an R&B artist before making the switch to country music.
