After teasing her new song, Backfire, for the last week, Amy Sheppard has shared the new single.

Backfire is a glowing, loved-up country-pop number that allows Sheppard’s vocals to shine in a romantic spotlight where she sings, “Started as a spark, didn’t drop that lighter/ Walked right in when the flames went higher/ crashed and burned now, nothing burns brighter/ should have known you can’t take back fire.”

To showcase the single, Sheppard has unveiled a music video packed with footage filmed from a performance in Tamworth supplied by the Tamworth Regional Council. In the video, she’s joined by bandmates Logan Brewster on drums, guitarist Jason McGregor and Isaac Kennedy on bass. You can check out the live performance video for Backfire below.

Backfire follows Sheppard’s recently released single, Overthinking, the first taste of her forthcoming debut album due for release in 2024.

Overthinking was written by Sheppard alongside songwriting heavy hitters Lindsay Rimes (Kylie Minogue, Kane Brown, Kelsea Ballerini) and Phil Barton (Lee Brice, The McClymonts), in which Sheppard described it as her “biggest and boldest single to date”.

She added, “It's country but with a big serve of pop-rock swirled in the mix. I continue to be inspired by my music heroes - The Chicks, Taylor Swift, Shania Twain and Maren Morris, and I wanted to write a song that was equal parts heartbreak and belt out in the car with your friends.”

The single went on to land at #16 on the Countrytown Singles Chart.

Last month, Sheppard was unmasked as Orca on the latest season of The Masked Singer Australia. Sheppard wrote about her time on The Masked Singer Australia, “It was one of the most exciting experiences of my career, and now the secret is out! I’ve loved performing as Orca and joining the global Masked Singer family. Hope you loved it too!”
