Aus Fans Cross Fingers As The Chicks Cancel More Shows

August 1, 2023 11:12 pm in by

The Chicks issued another tour update on Instagram this morning, announcing that one show would be rescheduled to next month and the other would be cancelled as the band still face “ongoing illness”.

Last week, the band postponed shows in Greensboro and Knoxville and cancelled their Nashville date just hours before they were due to take the stage. This morning, they also rescheduled their Merriweather Post Pavilion show and cancelled a gig that would have taken place at Bethel Woods Center For The Arts.

While the cancelled and moved shows would have occurred in late July and early August, the sudden decisions raise concerns for The Chicks’ upcoming Australian tour, which starts this October. We hope this is a mild illness at best and the group will feel better soon.

Two days before the band cancelled their Nashville show, the blog Country Universe caught the trio in Louisville and wrote on Twitter, “Stellar set by @thechicks last night in Louisville. Natalie sang through a headcold like the boss she always has been, and the Gaslighter material was built for an arena show.”

Last month, due to unprecedented demand, The Chicks added a second show in Brisbane for their upcoming Australian tour, taking their tally to eleven shows down under this spring.

Their first Australian tour since 2017, the band will begin their busy run in Adelaide on 12 October before performing at A Day On The Green in Geelong, a sold-out headline date at Rod Laver Arena, to New South Wales for a headline show and A Day On The Green, festival and headline concerts in Brisbane, before three stops in New Zealand wrap up the tour on this side of the globe. You can find all the tour dates below.

The Chicks consists of lead vocalist Natalie Maines and sisters Martie Maguire (vocals, fiddle, mandolin, guitar) and Emily Strayer (vocals, guitar, banjo, Dobro).

The highly influential trio are known for Not Ready To Make Nice, Wide Open Spaces, Travelin' Soldier, Cowboy Take Me Away, and their #1 hit on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s Landslide. In 2020, The Chicks unveiled their first album in 14 years, Gaslighter, and further solidified their reputation in the country (and mainstream crossover) music world.
