Casey Barnes has achieved a new career milestone, being awarded his first-ever ARIA Gold Record for God Took His Time On You.

The Australian singer-songwriter received the award off the back of a sold-out Tamworth Country Music Festival concert, with a representative from independent music company Chugg Music surprising Barnes with the plaque while he was on stage.

In response, Barnes wrote on Instagram this morning, “Last night was one I’ll remember for the rest of my life. Not only did we sell out the Longyard again, but to top it off, I was presented with my first-ever certified ARIA Gold Record for ‘God Took His Time On You’.”

He continued in a statement, “This song started out as a dedication to my wife, but to see it connect with so many people around the world has blown me away.

“Songs like this don’t come along often in your career, so thanks to you guys for embracing it the way you have. This acknowledgment from ARIA is the icing on the cake, means the world and I’m extremely grateful.”

In addition to the Queensland Music Awards win, Barnes also won the 2023 APRA Award for Most Performed Country Work of the Year with God Took His Time On You.
