Garth Brooks may be on the verge of making country music history all over again.
According to multiple reports, the country superstar is exploring the possibility of selling his music catalogue in a deal that could be worth as much as USD $2 billion, a figure that would place it among the largest catalogue sales ever completed by an individual artist.
While no deal has been officially confirmed, it was first reported by The Wall Street Journal that Brooks has been discussing valuations ranging from the high $1 billion range to more than $2 billion with potential investors. The proposed sale would reportedly include both his songwriting catalogue and his master recordings.
If that number sounds staggering, it's because Brooks' career has been anything but ordinary.
The country icon has sold more than 200 million albums in the United States alone, surpassing even The Beatles in total U.S. album sales. He remains the only artist in history to achieve ten diamond-certified albums, cementing his place as one of the most commercially successful musicians of all time.
What makes a potential Brooks deal even more intriguing is his unique relationship with streaming. For years, Brooks has largely kept his music off major streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, instead favouring exclusive arrangements and traditional album sales. Industry observers have speculated that a catalogue sale could potentially open the door for broader streaming availability in the future, though nothing has been announced.
For now, it's important to note that Brooks has not publicly confirmed any sale. But if the reports are accurate, the deal would be a massive payday for one of country music's most influential figures.
