Dan + Shay To Make U.S. History As First Coaching Duo On ‘The Voice’

Dan + Shay will join The Voice US in 2024, making it the first time the American singing competition show has had a coaching duo.

The Tequilla hitmakers join fellow country singer Reba McEntire along with R&B crooner John Legend and fan favourite Chance The Rapper as coaches for Season 25.

Dan + Shay are no strangers to The Voice, having previously performed their single Speechless with contestant Chevel Shepherd on Season 15 and served as Blake Shelton’s battle advisors in Season 20. But 2024 will be the first time they will have their own teams to advise in a double chair.

“SO EXCITED FOR THIS!” the duo shared via social media.

Season 24 of The Voice will air in 2023 with McEntire, Legend, Niall Horan and Gwen Stefani behind the red chairs. It is the first season without Shelton, who announced his departure from The Voice last October to focus on other projects.

"The country lane – I'm taking over for Blake, so I'm gonna represent country music," McEntire told PEOPLE. “[He's got] big boots. I don't know what size those boots are, but they're big, so I'm gonna really work hard to make him proud."

Shelton also gave the music legend his stamp of approval amid his exit.

"I'm excited about Reba coming on board," he told E! News. "It's kind of meant to be, I think. From the versions of the story that I've heard, she was the original coach that they wanted here on The Voice to be the country representation. So, now that I've had my run, for her to finally get the job that she was meant to have to begin with, it will be fun."

"I know she's a fan of the show, so she's probably had ideas of how she would do this for a long time anyway," he continued. "I can't imagine what it's going to be like for those kids to get a chance to work with Reba. She's one of my heroes, she's an icon."

In addition, Dan + Shay have been busy in the social working on their next studio album. Their current single, You, is a love song from their Good Things album, released in 2021.

"We're nearing the end of this yet-to-be-announced album," Dan + Shay’s Dan Smyers told Audacy's Katie & Company. "It's been a few years in the works. We don't quite have all the details yet. We're ironing them out as we go, but it's definitely our best yet."

"We're so proud of it, and I'm just so excited to get this out there to the people," he added. "We're going to have new music by the end of the year, and I'm fired up for it."

The multi-platinum country duo formed 10 years ago and have garnered more than 10 billion global streams to date, 46 RIAA certifications and nine # 1 singles on country radio. In 2021, Dan + Shay became the first artists to win the Grammy for ‘Best Country Duo/Group Performance’ three times consecutively since the category's inception.

“They gotta be on the show,” Shelton told Stage Right of the pair. “I mean those kids! I’ve been watching their careers – they toured with me when they had their first single out for about a year. They’re both great guys. But Shay is one of the funniest human beings I’ve ever been around in my life. So, it’s no wonder to me that they went on to be the big stars that they are now.”
