Australian country music favourites Darlinghurst were due to perform at the Moonee Ponds Bowls Club this coming Saturday (18 November). However, due to circumstances they claim are outside of their control, the show has been suddenly cancelled.
“Good Morning all,
“We have been informed through circumstances out of our control, that this Saturday’s show at Moonee Ponds Bowls Club has been cancelled,” the band wrote on Facebook yesterday (15 November).
Darlinghurst are urging fans to contact them if they can’t get in touch with the venue for a refund, “and we will do our best to make sure you can transfer the ticket to another show.” They then apologised and alleged they were “in the dark on the details”.
In the comments, Darlinghurst’s Cassie Leopold wrote, “I’m so frustrated guys, I have even tried calling. Please if you have no luck getting the refund I’ll personally transfer your ticket to another venue and chase the money from the club myself.”
Countrytown has reached out to the Moonee Ponds Bowls Club for comment.
In May, Darlinghurst released the single Pretty Doesn’t Make You Good, a barnstorming scorcher about the gravity of self-empowerment.
When it landed earlier this year, Leopold described it as an ode to those “trying to escape what the world sells” – the profoundly poisonous yet ever-prevalent narrative that one’s success is tied to one's appearance. She explained: “Our personal internal dialogue, self-deprecating, body loathing struggle is real, and this system is deeply unconscious, yet faithfully repeated.”
By the time June rolled around, the song had landed at #9 on the Countrytown Hot 50 Airplay Chart.
After Darlinghurst released their debut self-titled album in September 2021, they were crowned New Talent of the Year at the 2022 Golden Guitar Awards. That win was followed by collaborating with Amber Lawrence on her song Living For The Highlights. 2023 has also been a massive year for the band, starting with their live team-up with Daryl Braithwaite at this year’s Twilight At Taronga festival, then their collaborative single with Joe Camilleri & The Black Sorrows on A Little Love.
