Indigenous Australian country meets soul singer Emma Donovan has shared a stunning new single, Lovin’ Looks Like, ahead of her four performances at Tamworth Country Music Festival.
As well as her Tamworth dates, Donovan has extended her national tour to visit central and regional cities nationwide.
Lovin’ Looks Like features an inimitable country twang alongside Donovan’s effortless, breathtaking, vulnerable and soulful vocals – her singing is truly the star of an already beautiful song. You can listen to Lovin’ Looks Like below.
The new track is the second single from Donovan’s forthcoming solo album, set to land later this year. Donovan said about the hypnotic new track, “Lovin' Looks Like is a healing song about learning to love yourself again. It’s about taking a good look in the mirror and, seeing who you are, and knowing and learning about all your worth.
“After being broken from a relationship, learning to love yourself can be hard, but over the years, I’ve taken good advice. I’ve learned that putting myself first isn’t a bad thing and that I should never be made to feel bad about that focus.”
She continued, “A lot of this album is about that for me: not being afraid to do this on my own and walking strong through everything. My beautiful close Uncle and Aunty offered the first and second verses to me in a time of need.
“These lyrics basically wrote themselves like most of my songs that I’ve lived; I’ve had to learn or survive or work things out myself as I go.”
Donovan co-wrote and produced Lovin’ Looks Like alongside Mick Meagher (The Putbacks, The Bamboos, Kate Ceberano, The Pigram Brothers, Ross Hannaford).
This month, Donovan returns to where it all began – Tamworth – where she performed as an 11-year-old with the family country music band, The Donovans. After her appearances at Tamworth Country Music Festival, Donovan will go on a national tour with special guest Charley Crockett.
If you’re attending Donovan’s forthcoming tour, you can purchase a limited edition Double A side 7” with the first two singles from her new album, Lovin’ Looks Like and Blak Nation. You can buy tickets via Emma Donovan’s website.
