Powerhouse Australian alt-country/Americana artist Jen Mize and her equally stunning band, The Rough N’ Tumble, are back with the new single, North Carolina.
The track is the third to be released from the group’s forthcoming album, Tilt, scheduled for release later this year. It follows the already-released numbers, Greater Good and Double Talk.
North Carolina journeys through the American south – where Mize’s extended family is based – with a groove and vintage feel that’s wholeheartedly authentic and rich in its storytelling.
The song carries the famous Southern hospitality Australians are really only familiar with from the movies, but for Mize, it’s something much closer to home, even after living in Australia for over two decades.
“I’ve never regretted my choice moving to Australia, not at all; it’s just easy to look back on my childhood with warmth and a bit of nostalgia,” Mize explained of the track.
She continued, “North Carolina is about sharing those feelings with my family and friends here in Australia. About how, when we travel, if we’re lucky and we keep our hearts open, we may find pockets of culture that somehow, strangely make us feel like home.
“It is welcoming new people and trusting in the innate goodness of others. That no matter our differences, we can find good-natured laughs, kindness and a sense of common ground by opening our hearts.
“I’ve definitely found that nature in Australia, too, that generosity, warmth and kindness in the people I’ve met, both as a musician and just going about daily life.”

Jen Mize & The Rough N’ Tumble’s first song of the year, Double Talk, was released in January. Following its release, the single started making an impact on multiple charts in Australia.
It charted for more than two consecutive weeks on AMRAP, featured on ABC Country’s Edge of Country, Saturday Night Country and Grass Roots programs, and featured on Apple’s New in Country and Southern Craft playlists. In Tamworth, the song was added to rotation on TMFM.
