Kacey Musgraves shared a harrowing story about a recent near-death experience while promoting her new album, Deeper Well, last week.
Appearing on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the High Horse singer revealed that she nearly fell off a cliff while filming the music video for her new album’s title track.
“It’s like another planet. It’s amazing,” Musgraves said of the video filmed in Iceland. “It’s like if the movie Dune was very green. It’s like that. It’s kinda sci-fi but very earthy.”
Despite Iceland's beauty, it wasn’t all sci-fi and joy for Musgraves, who revealed that she and her team “picked literally the worst possible week to go” and film the music video. “I was so excited; it was on my bucket list,” she said.
Detailing the dangerous conditions, she continued, “It was like, high wind advisory. I almost got blown off the cliff. I was like, ‘This video will be my death announcement,’ because it was a sheer drop to the ocean.
“I mean, it was treacherous. And even the locals were like, ‘This is some scary shit.’”

Deeper Well was released just days ago (15 March), but Musgraves has already unveiled a digital-only bonus track, Ruthless, which you can download here.
Musgraves described the title track of her new album as follows: “Sometimes, you reach a crossroads. Winds change direction. What you once felt drawn to doesn’t hold the same allure. You get blown off course but eventually find your footing and forage for new inspiration, new insight, and deeper love somewhere else.”
The singer recorded most of Deeper Well at the renowned Electric Lady Studios with longtime collaborators Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk, an experience inspired by the rich musical history and lush energy of New York City’s Greenwich Village.
Deeper Well follows Musgraves’ 2021 album, star-crossed, which arrived after her 2018 Grammy Award-winning album (Album of the Year, Best Country Album), Golden Hour.
