KIX, Australia’s hottest country radio station, has announced a new change that will excite listeners: the network is introducing a Weekend Breakfast show and revealed its host.
Taking to Instagram yesterday (9 July), KIX Country welcomed its new Weekend Breakfast show host Chris Sandilands. Australian listeners thinking, “Any relation to Kyle Sandilands?” are on the money: it’s his brother.
“BIG NEWS From this weekend, Saturday and Sunday mornings will sound a little different,” KIX Country’s statement about its new host reads. “Chris Sandilands joins the KIX team to host our brand new Weekend Breakfast show! Tune in from 6 am-9 am on the weekend and give Chris a warm welcome to team KIX!”

While Kyle Sandilands is known for his longtime career on Australian radio and as a judge on Australian Idol (including on its reboot seasons), you might be wondering who his brother is.
Chris Sandilands joined KIX Country as an announcer last year, having an “audition” on the Kyle & Jackie O show that resulted in a little “tiff” with the latter presenter.
He’s a true country music fan - his Instagram shows videos and pictures from Jackson Dean’s concert at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion earlier this year and shows support for Australian artists like Christie Lamb and Tori Darke. Could Chris get his brother to “go country,” as Luke Bryan suggested last year?
Last year, Kyle Sandilands mistakenly assumed that country music isn’t popular in Australia. Luke Bryan corrected that assumption, telling the radio station that every Australian show on his 2018 tour was sold out.
“It was a life-changing event. The arena where they have the Australian Open… it totally blew my mind,” Bryan said.
“I knew that we were going to play it; I knew it was going to be a good night, but going out there, and there’s 18,000+ Australian country music fans told me that the market is ripe over there.”
Avoiding a public row with Sandilands over a little comment, Bryan concluded, “I think Australia is the most rural country in the world – there’s a lot of music out there that should be heard in that category… Kyle, go easy on us, baby. Go country.”
