Lainey Wilson doesn’t let little things like her pants splitting while on stage embarrass her. Instead, she takes them in her stride, pokes fun at herself, and carries on.
Performing at the Faster Horses Country Music & Camping Festival in Brooklyn, Michigan, on Saturday (20 July), Wilson addressed the audience after changing into new jeans and told them that without her crew, she likely wouldn’t have noticed her wardrobe malfunction.
“Y'all just about got a real show,” the Watermelon Moonshine singer joked in footage filmed on TikTok after changing clothes. “There's a first time for everything, and I'm glad it was y'all that I split my pants wide open in front of.”
Wilson added, “You can't make that up! I'd have never known had my people back here not seen it.”
Telling the crowd that she had “new pants on,” Wilson discussed the difficulties of putting on a fresh pair of jeans after performing: “I'll tell you what, try and put on some jeans when you [are] sweating. It ain't fun. You gotta jump in them things!”
Following the wardrobe malfunction incident, Wilson took to social media and shared a video of herself doing a squat dance to her single Hang Tight Honey, captioning the video, “Adding this into my routine before a show so my britches don’t rip like they did last night at Faster Horses.”
You can watch both videos below.
Speaking of taking things in her stride, Wilson’s upcoming new album, Whirlwind, is all about her experiences of the last few years and returning to her roots, no matter how famous she gets.
Wilson said about her new album on social media, “Writing & recording these 14 songs over the past couple of years has helped me stay grounded in ways you’d never believe.
“This album brought me back to my roots and made me feel at home during times when I couldn’t have been further away, and my biggest hope is that it gives you that same sense of comfort that it has for me.”
Whirlwind will be released via BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville on Friday, 23 August. So far, we’ve heard three songs from the album: lead single Hang Tight Honey, Country’s Cool Again, and the recently released track, 4x4xU.
