Lucie Tiger Is The Only Independent Australian Artist To Have Five Singles On The MusicRow Country Breakout Chart In Two Years

July 4, 2023 1:05 am in by

Lucie Tiger is the only independent Australian artist to have five singles on the published MusicRow Country Breakout Chart in the last two years – Home Is Where The Heart Is (June 2023), Burn It Down (December 2022), Right Next To You (July 2022), Midnight Goodbye (December 2021) and Found My Home (July 2021).

This is a unique achievement for an independent Australian artist, and it indicates the level of support she is garnering in the US market. As Tiger rarely co-writes, this is also a testament to her songwriting, which reflects her love of country blues and Southern country rock, plus the life experiences she’s been lucky to have on her inspirational road trips through America.

There are a couple of US-based, Australian artists who are signed to record labels that have also done very well on the MusicRow Country Breakout Chart, including Keith Urban (Capitol Records Nashville) with One Too Many (Keith Urban & P!nk), Wildhearts and Brown Eyes Baby as well as Morgan Evans (Warner Nashville) with Day Drunk and Over For You.

Australian-based artists whose songs have featured on the MusicRow Country Breakout Chart include Darlinghurst with So Long So Long (November 2020) and Gotta Go Rodeo (August 2021) and Andrew Farriss with Drifting (March 2022) and You Are My Rock (October 2022).

LB Cantrell, who oversees all chart content at MusicRow, notes that the MusicRow Country Breakout Chart positions are based on airplay with data sourced from a panel of reporting radio stations. The panel varies in size but currently sits at 62 radio stations. The MusicRow Country Breakout Chart archive can be accessed via this link.

Tiger has had a great run to date. Her single Gasoline won the Tamworth Songwriters Association’s ‘Country Blues Song of the Year’ 2021, and she has garnered multiple nominations at the Australian Songwriters Association Awards over the last few years.

Both associations are distinguished – the Australian Songwriters Association is the largest songwriting association in the nation with the most prestigious awards event and the Tamworth Songwriting Association is the largest songwriting association to focus solely on country music in Australia and its awards event is held every year during the Tamworth Country Music Festival.

Tiger’s latest single Home Is Where The Heart Is is currently climbing the MusicRow Country Breakout Chart and her follow up single, the upbeat country blues/rock Mississippi - Tennessee is quickly gathering streams thanks to being featured on multiple US-based playlists. Tiger is represented by Grassroots Promotions in the US.

Born and raised in the Sydney region, Tiger grew up listening to 1970s rock and Southern artists like The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton, The Rolling Stones etc. during long family road trips. She turned those childhood memories into a career, channelling that classic sound with a fresh feel.

Her music blends truth with hope along with buried treasure in her lyrics for those searching out her inspirations and her songs are coloured with a hefty dose of good old Americana charm and subtle hallmarks of the blues. Her heavy influences include The Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd as well as more modern touches of RaeLynn, Jason Isbell and Miranda Lambert.

Tiger released her debut self-titled EP in 2018, Apple Tree in 2019 and Gasoline in 2020. Her 2022 album Alabama Highway debuted at #14 on the ARIA Country Albums chart and The Memphis Tapes debuted at #7 on the AIR Albums Chart.
