What do country singer Luke Combs and tornadoes have in common? The ability to create a whirlwind of hype? As much as that may be true, Luke Combs has created the new starring song in the action movie Twisters, set to hit the big screen on July 19, 2024.
The new movie is set to serve as a standalone sequel to the 1996 classic Twister. The original became a cult classic, containing stars Helen Hunt, Jami Gertz, the late Bill Paxton, and the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, and following the storyline of two storm chasers facing the brink of death to create an advanced weather alert system.
The 2024 release follows a similar premise, as Normal People star Daisy Edgar-Jones and Top Gun: Maverick’s Glen Powell storm chase some violent tornadoes in Oklahoma with the help of a tornado intercept vehicle.
While Combs’ songs have been heard in film and television across projects such as country shows Heartland and The Ranch and the ending of Angry Birds 2, Twisters marks the first blockbuster for which Combs will have created the starring track.
Combs revealed the new track on Thursday (May 9) on his socials, stating that the song is called Ain’t No Love In Oklahoma after the town in which Twisters takes place. The song and music video will be released next Thursday (May 16) at 8 AM ET.
“Pumped to let y’all know my next single on country radio will be Ain’t No Love In Oklahoma - a song written for and featured in the @twistersmovie,” Combs announced on Instagram.
While the singer combed through Australia (pun intended) in August 2023, his roster is now filled with US stadium tour dates, ranging from headlining the Country Thunder Music Festival in Florida in late October to playing INDYCAR Race Weekend at Iowa Speedway.
A rocking teaser for Ain’t No Love In Oklahoma can be heard below.
Earlier this year, Combs shared a new “dad” song on social media called Plant A Seed.
He said about the song, “Got sent this song a while back from Wyatt McCubbin that he wrote with Rob Snyder and Jeff Hyde. Last night it was in my head and I couldn’t sleep so I got up and messed around with it for a few hours. Been singing it to myself all morning and as I watched the boys while Nicole got a shower in, I recorded this.
“Hope y’all like it and sorry for all the dad songs but that’s where I’m at these days and I couldn’t be happier about it. A lot more songs to come soon.”
