Maren Morris has detailed her plans to put touring on the back burner, sharing that she wants to prioritise time with her son and focus on writing – including for Broadway.

Morris is currently on her dreamGIRL Tour, which concludes next month. In a new interview with Today (3 July), she said it would be her last tour for now.

“This is sort of my last tour for a bit, because I want to be able to free-think more and be in the studio more, and just figure out what I want to say next,” she said. “It’s been ten years of touring, so no real time to stop and truly be creative unless I carve out the time.”

The My Church hitmaker added that she’s looking forward to spending more time with her six-year-old son and returning to the studio, with new ideas in mind.

“I’m excited to home a little bit more after this run,” Morris said. “So, we’ll do this string of shows, knock it out, and I’ll go home. My son is starting kindergarten, and I really wanted to be off the road when that began. I’ll just get back in the studio and figure out what the eff happens next.”

Discussing what could be next for her, Morris has set her sights on writing music for a Broadway production. “I feel like Broadway — it’s just a storytelling medium, and you get more time,” she admitted. “So, I would love to do something like that, write for a musical.”

Maren Morris’ most recent album, D R E A M S I C L E, was released last year. Along with its release, she made her way to Australia for her first-ever headline shows in the country.

D R E A M S I C L E felt like it was already translating itself to a live environment while I was writing the album,” Morris said. “It’ll be a dreamy experience all around for fans and for myself.”

Fans had been eagerly awaiting Morris’s return since her 2019 Australian tour was unexpectedly cancelled, leaving many hopeful for a reschedule that never came. The Dreamsicle Tour marked a long-overdue reunion with her Aussie fanbase.

“This tour is my love letter to the fans who’ve stuck by me - and to the person I’ve become because of them,” she shared.
