Matt Cornell is planning a huge bash for his upcoming 50th birthday. I know, we can’t believe it, and neither can Cornell who wrote on his social media, “Dear friends, I’m turning 50 this year . I’m not quite sure where the time has gone ‍♂️.”

“To celebrate, I’m having a birthday bash on the Brisbane River, and an after party at [Brisbane’s iconic bar and entertainment venue] Johnny Ringo’s, and you’re all invited,” he continued. “The cruise is 12pm till 4pm, after party 4.30pm onwards… it’s going to be a memorable day!”

The $85 ticket price includes finger food on the cruise as well as the after party.

The son of performers Cheryl Assange and former Delltone Wayne Cornell, Cornell grew up in an extremely musical family. His parents would often rehearse shows in the loungeroom. His uncle, George Assange (also performed under the name Vic Sabrino), was also influential, being the first Australian to make a rock ‘n ’roll recording in 1955.

Cornell has been anything but idle throughout his lifelong music career. Sneaking in the back doors of venues to play professionally when he was just 16, he’s enjoyed an illustrious career as a bass player to some music royalty. Cornell has also plucked the 4-string for Baby Animals, Richard Clapton, Rose Tattoo, Lee Kernaghan, Shannon Noll and nowadays, Adam Brand

Additionally, one half of the Golden Guitar nominated duo Cornell & Carr and a member of Adam Brand and the Outlaws, Cornell has fronted the stage at the famous SXSW festival in Texas and supported Richard Marx on both his 2016 and 2018 Australian tours.

Following the release of his self-titled album in 2014, Cornell has gone on to release the albums, Out Of Suburbia (2014) and My Soundtrack (2017) as well as a string of singles.

Last year, he released his first solo single in five years, the anthemic track, Stick Around. More recently he joined Adam Brand on the collaboration, Our Church, which peaked at #12 on the Countrytown Hot 50 Airplay Chart and currently sits at #20.
