Morgan Wallen has been cleared to sing again after vocal fold trauma forced him to cancel more than six weeks of his tour.
Wallen posted the health update on his Instagram stories. "The doc cleared me to talk and sing … we back," he shared.
He didn't give any more details on when he's expected to resume touring, but his next date is scheduled for June 22 in Chicago.
His representative said tickets for the original dates will be honoured for the rescheduled performances, and a 30-day refund window will be available when new dates are announced.
Wallen’s One Night At A Time world tour took an abrupt halt back in April when he scrapped a show in Mississippi just minutes before he was due to take to the stage and he then took 10 days of vocal rest before returning to play three more shows and then axing the next six weeks of concert dates on doctor's orders.
In a video shared on Twitter at the time, he explained, “I got some bad news from my doctors at the Vanderbilt Voice Center yesterday. After taking 10 days of vocal rest, I performed three shows last weekend in Florida. And by the third one, I felt terrible. So, I went in and got scoped yesterday and they told me I re-injured my vocal cords and that I have vocal fold trauma. Their advice is that I go on vocal rest for six weeks so that's what I'm gonna do. They want me not to talk at all, but they said if I need to, it’s OK for something like this.”
As part of his One Night At A Time world tour, Wallen performed five shows in Australia back in March. In his video, he noted to fans that he’d also suffered an injury on that trek: “I tore my lat [latissimus dorsi] while we were in Australia,” he said. “I've been trying to work through that quietly, but this time off is going to help me get that back right as well.”
He added that doctors warned him if he kept on singing, he could permanently damage his voice, so Wallen decided to take time off for the "longevity" of his career.
Wallen is currently touring in support of his record-breaking third album, One Thing At A Time. In an interview about the record’s expansive sound, he said, “I’m proud that we got to expand our horizons a little bit, with some new sounds and new subjects. Trying to grow, trying to branch out, while not forgetting everything that’s gotten me to this point. I think we’ve been able to accomplish that with this album…”
Recently, Wallen hit a significant milestone on the Australian Recording Industry Association charts with Last Night taking its place as the longest running #1 country song in the history of the ARIA charts, overtaking Billy Ray Cyrus’ 1992 Achy Break Heart. With eight weeks at #1, Last Night is now the sixth longest-running chart-topper for this decade, tied with Harry Styles’ 2022 single As It Was.
He also released a line of Sweet Tea with The Ryl Company which sold out quickly.
