Morgan Wallen has hit a significant milestone on the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) charts this week.

Wallen’s hit single, Last Night has now taken its place as the longest running #1 country song in the history of the ARIA charts, overtaking Billy Ray Cyrus’ 1992 Achy Break Heart. With eight weeks at #1, Last Night is now the sixth longest-running chart-topper for this decade, tied with Harry Styles’ 2022 single As It Was

In April, Wallen became the first male American country singer to secure both the top single and album spots in three decades, since Cyrus’ aforementioned Achy Breaky Heart and its parent album Some Gave All.

On the heels of the success of ARIA certified Platinum album Dangerous: The Double Album – which peaked at #2 on the ARIA Charts in 2021, Wallen released his 36-song, deeply personal third studio album, One Thing At A Time, on March 3, 2023.

After a string of sold-out Aussie shows in March, and headlining CMC Rocks QLD, Wallen’s album One Thing At A Time soared to #1 on the ARIA Charts, followed by an unprecedented streak of consecutive weeks at #1 for Last Night.

Since its inception in 1988, the ARIA Charts have been a platform for identifying and celebrating the achievements of outstanding musicians, and Wallen's accomplishment is no exception. Last Night is certified 2x ARIA Platinum, one of Wallen’s sixteen ARIA certified Platinum and Gold singles.

Wallen’s work is deeply personal, combining all his musical influences, running the gambit in both sound and subject. Speaking on his artistry, Wallen says, “I just try to tell it how it is – the good, the bad, the love, the heartbreak. That’s all I know how to do.”

Wallen’s success is universally unmatched in the country sphere, with Last Night at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart this week in the United States. Last Night’s parent album One Thing at a Time dominates the Billboard Hot 200 for a 13th week as it boasts the most weeks in a row at #1 since the Titanic soundtrack hit 16 weeks in 1998.

Like its feat in Australia, the many weeks atop the Billboard Hot 200 in the U.S. for One Thing at a Time mark the most for a country album since Cyrus’ Some Gave All, sparked by its own crossover smash Achy Breaky Heart ruled for 17 weeks in 1992. On the album release, the country superstar succeeded to chart all 36 songs from the record on the Billboard Hot 100, surpassing the previously held record of 27 songs, from Drake in 2018.

With this monumental achievement on the ARIA charts, Wallen continues to pave the way for 21st century country musicians to cross over into the mainstream.
