RIley Green might not be someone typical eager to lean into all of the lavish benefits that came with fame, but his forthcoming role has certainly seem him take advantage of one special consideration.
Earlier this month, details were revealed surrounding the forthcoming 30th season of The Voice, which officially premieres on September 21.
While Carson Daly will take on hosting duties, coaches Adam Levine and Kelly Clarkson will return to the show, while Queen Latifah and Green will join as new additions.
Speaking to Ohio’s K99.1 FM radio station at the state’s recent Country Concert, Green was asked about his upcoming role as a coach on The Voice and how his appearance will look slightly different thanks to some alterations to the seating setup.
According to Green, while he’ll still be found sitting the iconic red chairs used by the show, his has been altered to accommodate the presence of his iconic cowboy hat. As he explains, we’ve got the show’s host to thank for that.
“Carson Daly was like, we’re sitting over there and he said, ‘What are you going to do with your hat? Are you going to wear it during the show?’” Green recalled. “I said, ‘Well, I can’t because the chair, the back of it, you can’t wear a cowboy hat with a tall chair like that.’
“And I was like, ‘Man, it’d be cool to have a little holster for it.’ And he’s like, ‘Well, I’m one of the executive producers. I can probably get that done.’”
Sure enough, Daly went off, spoke to some of the people in charge, and Green returned to the set with his chair looking ever-so-slightly different.
“Next thing I know, I got a little holster for my hat,” he explained. “So nobody else has that.”
“It's right there on the side, I kinda sheath it when I sit down,” he added while speaking to TODAY earlier this month.
While the alteration of his seat isn’t exactly an example of musical excess, Green’s latest effort certainly was an exercise in excess.
Released this month, Green shared the clip to his Think As You Drunk single, which features the musician in and around his Nashville bar Duck Blind as he finds himself defending his levels of intoxication, despite arguing with a dog, falling off of front porches, and even getting arrested while driving a ride-on lawnmower (a fitting tribute to George Jones).
Think As You Drink will appear on Green’s forthcoming album, That’s Just Me, which is scheduled to arrive on September 18th – just a matter of days before the latest season of The Voice premieres.
