Gosh dang, what a week it’s been for scorchin’ new country tunes! Not only were we blessed with spicy new releases from some of Australia’s finest up-and-comers, like Bella Mackenzie (who just dropped COWBOY), Katie Jayne (who went all out with Too Big For Your Boots) and Darlinghurst (whose new cut Gypsy Girl is destined to be a hit), but the international heavyweights were out in full force: Luke Combs came in guns blazing with his wicked new banger The Man He Sees In Me, for example, while Carly Pearce delivered another instant classic in truck on fire, and Megan Moroney got her fans going absolutely mental with Man On The Moon.
With all of that in mind, now seems like as good a time as any to remind you – or clue you in, if you didn’t know already – that we have our very own playlist dedicated to bringing you the best new music from all corners of the country music landscape, fittingly named Hot Country Hits Australia. We update it every Friday with more than a dozen of the brand new tracks we simply can’t get enough of, giving you the ultimate soundtrack to fuel your weekend.
You can listen to the Hot Country Hits Australia playlist on Spotify (here) and Apple Music (here) – and make sure to hit us up on Instagram or Facebook to let us know what songs you’ve been loving!
Here are just a few of our personal favourites from this week’s update to the playlist...
Bella Mackenzie – COWBOY
WHAT SHE SAYS: “COWBOY was written to make the listener feel strong, proud and empowered. I knew I wanted to write a song that would not only pump up a festival crowd but also pump up that person sitting in their car listening.”
Thomas Rhett – Gone Country
WHAT HE SAYS: “From top to bottom, I wanted to exude joy and fun with this project – and really just make people move. I went into making this record with a fearless attitude, put my blinders on and my head down to try and make really fun music... I feel like if you were to ask me what this record is about, the answer would be it’s about one woman, my wife, and it gave me an opportunity to say ‘I love you’ in a lot of different ways.”
Katie Jayne – Too Big For Your Boots
WHAT SHE SAYS: “I had the most fun writing this song. The story lived rent free in my head for months before coming to life in the studio with Jared Adlam. It’s a tale of smalltown romance gone awry, and a reminder to never mess with a country girl.”
