Known for their unique brand of post-punk meets indie rock, which is full of energy and catchy riffs, Trophy Wyfe get to continue their final years of high school as the coolest kids in the place. Their debut album is set for release later this year.

Over a thousand high school-aged young people, enthusiastic about making their own music, put their best foot forward for this year’s Unearthed High competition. After plenty of listening, a shortlist had to be finalised, and ultimately, the triple j Unearthed team decided on five finalists before declaring the winner. Trophy Wyfe were joined by Alli Kate, Lithu, TwoSeventy and Zoevi.

In addition to announcing the Unearthed High winner, triple j has also revealed this year’s Indigenous Initiative winner: TooLa, the moniker of 16-year-old Biripi student Tyler Saunders. Part of his prize includes something pretty special: TooLa’s next track will be mixed by Eric J Dubowsky (Flume, Tame Impala, Chet Faker).

As for Trophy Wyfe, the young band has chosen Genesis Owusu as their Unearthed High prize mentor. The trio will soon join the STAMPEDE hitmaker in the studio for a special songwriting session.

Previous Unearthed High winners and finalists include Genesis Owusu, The Kid LAROI, Ninajirachi, Gretta Ray, Hockey Dad, Teenage Joans, Mariae Cassandra, and many others.
