VIDEO PREMIERE: Robbie Mortimer – ‘Blow The Speakers’

Robbie Mortimer has returned to the spotlight with his hotly awaited single Blow The Speakers – an anthemic country tune about chasing your dreams – alongside a captivating music video (which Countrytown is premiering exclusively).

In a press release, Mortimer explained how Blow The Speakers tackles the notion that “a song can instantly transport us back to a moment in time”. He minted it with producer and co-writer Jared Adlam (best known for his work with the likes of Adam Brand and Matt Cornell) at the latter’s studio, Machine Lab, in the idyllic Queensland town of Tambourine.

Touching on how the pair made magic together, Mortimer said: “Jared truly brought the best out of me as an artist and songwriter. Nothing was too hard. There were no silly ideas, just opportunities to make a high energy country anthem and we did just that. I’m proud of what we created together.”

As for the accompanying music video, Mortimer linked up with famed director Craig Honeysett, who captured the artist cruising down backroads in a Ford F150 and shredding up a storm at a Nashville-themed concert in Orange, NSW. “From storyboarding to filming to editing,” he said, “Craig and I were committed to ensuring that the energy of my live shows and the song itself were properly captured. I really think Craig achieved this admirably.”

Blow The Speakers comes as Mortimer’s first release in nearly three-and-a-half years, following up on his debut album 200 Years Too Late (which arrived in November of 2021). It also follows the news that he’ll perform as the feature artist for this year’s Monster Energy Tour, presented by the Australian arm of the Professional Bull Rider’s Association (PBR).

Upon his announcement on the tour last week, Mortimer said of the effort: “I am thrilled and honoured to have been invited back on the PBR Monster Energy tour. PBR has given me the opportunity to perform to sold out arenas across Australia and sing my songs to thousands of people. The atmosphere is electric, the fans love their country music. Not only am I loving performing, but I am now a fanatic follower of the sport.”

Meanwhile, Mortimer recently made waves at last year’s Tamworth Country Music Festival, when he was named a finalist in the prestigious Toyota Star Maker contest.

Beyond his appearance on the Monster Energy Tour, Mortimer will perform at the Way Out West festival in Winton, QLD on Friday April 5, as well as the Stock Route festival in Dubbo on Saturday April 20, and the Carnival Of Cups in Goulburn on Sunday April 28. Later in the year, too – on Saturday September 28, to be exact – he’ll take the stage at the Heart Of The Hunter festival in Tocal, NSW.
