American country music star Jelly Roll has received his first-ever Grammy Award nominations – landing in the same boat as Australia’s Troye Sivan – in two massive, competitive categories.

He’s been nominated for the coveted Best New Artist award alongside singer-songwriters Gracie Abrams, Victoria Monét and Noah Kahan, producer Fred again.., rapper Ice Spice, singer and actress Coco Jones, and blues/rock/country duo The War And Treaty.

In addition to his Best New Artist nod, Jelly Roll has been nominated for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for Save Me (featuring Lainey Wilson).

He’s joined by Dierks Bentley featuring Billy Strings (with High Note), Brothers Osborne (Nobody’s Nobody), Zach Bryan and Kacey Musgraves (I Remember Everything), Vince Gill and Paul Franklin (Kissing Your Picture (Is So Cold)), and Chris Stapleton’s We Don’t Fight Anymore featuring Carly Pearce.

Reacting to his first-time Grammy nominations, Jelly Roll posted an emotional video to social media captioned, “I’m embarrassed to post this but my wife says honesty and rawness got me this far … I’ll post a more complete thought about this when I get my head together. I just never would’ve imagined”.

“The greatest honour an artist can ever hear is that they’ve been nominated for a Grammy,” Jelly Roll said in the tearful yet happy clip. “I got to hear that this morning. I haven’t cried like this since my daddy died. I tried making this video seven times, y’all. I love y’all, man, so fucking much.”

Lainey Wilson is also officially a first-time Grammy Award nominee, with a nod for Best Country Duo/Group Performance and Best Country Album for Bell Bottom Country. In the latter category, she faces competition from Kelsea Ballerini with Rolling Up The Welcome Mat, Brothers Osborne’s self-titled effort, Zach Bryan’s self-titled album and Rustin’ In The Rain by Tyler Childers.

Earlier this year, Jelly Roll went viral on TikTok after pulling up into a Whataburger drive-thru with two of his friends, asking the teen at the window how many people were working that night (it was five), and promptly said that he would be tipping $1,000 that night on one condition: that $200 goes to each worker.

“My dude don’t believe me y’all, but we’re gonna hit ’em with the big ol’ bankroll,” Jelly Roll said in the first TikTok video. Another video, captured by the teens, shows how excited they were to receive that sweet cash.
