Zac Brown is suing his estranged wife, Kelly Yazdi, as the pair work through divorce proceedings.
According to court documents obtained by NBC News, Brown is demanding that Yazdi remove a post from her Instagram account, alleging that the content is tarnishing his reputation.
Brown has claimed that Yazdi has broken a confidentiality agreement she signed. He is now seeking an emergency temporary restraining order against her that would compel her to remove the post.
The lawsuit doesn’t mention the Instagram post Brown seeks to be taken down. In addition to the legal request to pull her Instagram post, Brown has asked the court to stop Yazdi from allegedly “making any defamatory, false, untrue, or otherwise damaging statements” against him, his family, or the Zac Brown Collective.
Yazdi responded to Brown’s lawsuit on social media, writing that “No one—not even Zac Brown with all of his money, power, celebrity, and lawyers may silence my right to freely express myself through art or, although I have to date declined to do so publicly, to speak about the circumstances of our pending divorce.”
Adding that she plans to respond “swiftly and robustly” to Brown’s claims, Yazdi said that she didn’t plan on saying anything about the lawsuit she deems “unnecessary” and “legally meritless”.
“I will not be silenced by him no matter how ridiculous his tactics,” Kelly wrote. “Like Zac, I have lawyers too, and I will tell my truth in court — where he has unnecessarily dragged me.”
In a statement to NBC News, Brown said that his lawsuit against Kelly is to “maintain personal and business affairs in confidence and to protect my family from online harassment and speculation.” He also said his hope for the divorce proceedings is to “keep private matters private” and move forward with mutual respect.
Brown and Yazdi married in August 2023 and announced their split four months later. They confirmed their split to Billboard back in December, saying in a joint statement:
We are in the process of divorce. Our mutual respect for one another remains. We wish each other the best and will always appreciate our time together. As we navigate this personal matter, we simply request privacy during this time.
The marriage was Brown’s second after a twelve-year relationship with his first wife, Shelly Brown, with whom he shares four daughters and a son. Their relationship ended in 2018.
