Zach Bryan can add graduating from university to his list of recent achievements, with the popular singer-songwriter fulfilling a promise to his late mother.

“Got my bachelors yesterday after exams in the desert and green rooms to about a hundred different venues,” Bryan wrote on X (formerly Twitter) in late December. “No arrogance attached just a promise I made my mum a long while back. Bound to be a good week guys”.

At the time of writing, it’s unclear what Bryan studied for his Bachelor’s degree and what university he graduated from.

After naming his 2019 debut album, DeAnn, after his mother following her passing in 2016, the Something In The Orange singer previously described his mother as his “best friend”.

The Tennessean reports that to celebrate Bryan’s achievement and keeping the promise to his mother to receive a university degree, the singer’s partner, Brianna LaPaglia, threw him a surprise graduation ceremony with his team backstage at a concert.

A mariachi band soundtracked the celebrations while Bryan looked around the room in disbelief, wearing a graduation cap and gown. You can watch a TikTok of the event below.

In December, Bryan brought his in-demand show to Melbourne for one night only as part of the Victorian Government’s live music initiative, ALWAYS LIVE. Backstage after the show, Bryan was exclaiming, “That was my loudest ever show,” referring to the volume of the crowd singalongs.

In a live review of Bryan’s concert at the Flemington Racecourse, Countrytown reviewer Michael Prebeg showed delight with the singer’s interactions with the audience, writing:

Not only does the audience sing along to literally every song but is also always ready with the lyrics when he steps back from the microphone and warmly welcomes the voice of the crowd – often adding an extra chorus to allow for this.

Elsewhere, Prebeg highlighted the bond between fans and artist again, calling the connection “profound.” Between songs, Bryan thanked the crowd for being there, “expressing how much he loves every single one of his fans. And they love him too.”
