Zach Bryan has scored an epic guest feature in the music video for his song Nine Ball: Interstellar actor Matthew McConaughey.

Teasing a music video that’s more of a feature film than any typical clip, Bryan made the announcement via his Instagram yesterday (31 January). Nine Ball is from Bryan’s recently released surprise EP, Boys Of Faith.

In the caption, Bryan wrote, “Coming soon and written with care. Thank you to every single cameraman and set-hand that shared the weight; you’re all incredible”.

The collaboration with McConaughey isn’t a complete surprise. Last month, Bryan shared photos of himself with the actor at the Austin bar, Sagebrush. Bryan called the image “The Great American Bar Scene” and thanked McConaughey “for being so kind and open-hearted these past few days.

He continued to praise McConaughey “for all the advice and believing in something I cared enough to write about”. He added that the actor will “always have a friend in me, and for once, it was an honour to meet a hero.

“Also, thank you to Sagebrush Texas,” he wrote, “your staff, pool tables, bartenders and live sound is electric! Let’s goooooooooooo”.

In late January, Bryan took to X (formerly Twitter) and described Nine Ball like so: “My dad and me were drinking whiskey playing pool one night, and he goes, ‘man do i have a story for you’ Then he tells me about how my grandpa used to bet on him in pool games when he was just a kid”.

Until the music video lands, you can listen to Nine Ball below.

In December, Bryan brought his in-demand show to Melbourne, Australia, for one night only as part of the Victorian Government’s live music initiative, ALWAYS LIVE. Backstage after the show, Bryan was exclaiming, “That was my loudest ever show,” referring to the volume of the crowd singalongs.

In a live review of Bryan’s concert at the Flemington Racecourse, Countrytown reviewer Michael Prebeg showed delight with the singer’s interactions with the audience, writing:

Not only does the audience sing along to literally every song but is also always ready with the lyrics when he steps back from the microphone and warmly welcomes the voice of the crowd – often adding an extra chorus to allow for this.
