Zach Bryan Shares Music Video Featuring Matthew McConaughey

February 6, 2024 11:41 am in by

US country music star Zach Bryan has shared his new music video, Nine Ball, the highly anticipated new clip starring How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days actor Matthew McConaughey.

Depicting elements of Bryan’s real-life story with his father, McConaughey features as a father teaching his son how to play pool in the clip directed by Matthew Dillon Cohen.

The video follows 20 years of the father and son’s adventures, and in three minutes, Nine Ball feels like a cohesive, feature-length episode of television or even a film. You can watch the video below.

The collaboration with McConaughey isn’t a complete surprise. Last month, Bryan shared photos of himself with the actor at the Austin bar, Sagebrush. Bryan called the image “The Great American Bar Scene” and thanked McConaughey for “being so kind and open-hearted these past few days.

He continued to praise McConaughey “for all the advice and believing in something I cared enough to write about”. He added that the actor will “always have a friend in me, and for once, it was an honour to meet a hero.”

In late January, Bryan took to X (formerly Twitter) and described Nine Ball like so: “My dad and me were drinking whiskey playing pool one night, and he goes, ‘man do I have a story for you’ Then he tells me about how my grandpa used to bet on him in pool games when he was just a kid”.

Nine Ball comes from Bryan’s 2023 collaborative EP, Boys Of Faith, which features songs with Noah Kahan and Bon Iver.

Yesterday, Bryan took home a Grammy Award for a different collaboration: he and Kacey Musgraves won the Best Country Duo/Group Performance award for I Remember Everything.

More music from Bryan might be coming soon, with the star revealing that he was “about half done” with his next album on social media last month.
